I am running to represent the 110th district in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

The first question that people ask me is: “Why are you running?”

My answer is simple, I believe that North Carolina deserves better, and I know that it can do better.

In the 110th District, Kelly Hastings has gone unchallenged since 2018. On December 12th, 2023, I began the process of filing my candidacy. I filed because I am fed up with the direction that we have gone in this state.

The Speaker of the House in North Carolina, Tim Moore, has engaged in practices deliberately designed to restrict access to true representation. Representative Hastings has consistently backed every effort put forth by Speaker Moore. One is left to wonder…with Speaker Moore leaving the State House, who will tell Hastings how to vote?

I wholeheartedly believe that every person should be able to do what they think is best for their health and their family’s health.

I also do not believe that the current Republican supermajority was gained through democratic means. Representative Tricia Cotham misrepresented her values in order to win election. When the maps were redrawn, Cotham was placed in a position where she would seem to be safe.

I am not saying this because I am a Democrat, I am saying this because that is precisely what happened.

North Carolina is not a blue state, but it IS a lot more purple than the legislature reflects.

I believe the NC House of Representatives has engaged in dirty tricks to deprive half of North Carolinians of representation that would respond to them. I do not mean respond in the sense of a nasty, passive-aggressive email…but respond by TRULY listening to them.

I am running because I am tired, like many other North Carolinians, of the state of things. I am tired of the lawsuits in favor of ridiculous ideas like Independent State Legislators as we saw in Moore v. Harper.

While that matter was soundly settled by the U.S. Supreme Court, there are other issues that will be brought up – in an effort to make Moore and his cronies look better, and to hand them ever more power.

I am running because I think that North Carolina can do better, and I am doing my part to challenge the status quo.

I cannot do this alone, but I have confidence that I won’t be without support.

And while my criticisms run across the state, never forget that it was Kelly Hastings who voted against reproductive healthcare, voted in favor of the Frankenstein state-budget that can enable the legislature to raise a secret police (among other things), and has failed to do anything of substance to promote and protect education, solve homelessness, limit child hunger, or contribute to solving the housing crisis.

We live in a state today with a government more bent on on increasing its own power than on empowering the people.

Remember that on the 5th of November.
